The creator of the loganberry, Judge John L. Logan laid out Brookdale in 1900. The area had been named Clear Creek before that. In 1902 a hotel and post office were built. The brook runs through the Brook Room.
Wealthy families from San Francisco and elsewhere came by carriage and train to stay for the summers. In 1923 the lodge was rebuilt in grand style. The dining room was built with the creek running through it and it has a glass sided swimming pool to name a few of its exotic features. Presidents, royalty, and movie stars have all stayed in this incredible place, which is still operating today.
